WE ARE HOME!

That's how we roll!
Although we still have lots of pictures and stories to share, we are officially home.  Sometime this week, each of us will be sharing our favorite photos and stories of the trip.   It was a great time, but it is so good to be home!

Now that the trip is over and the pondering has begun, I'd like to ask you a few questions....

Crazy Horse, when will you be done?
Brea, is that water tasty?
Mr. Presidents, why so serious?
Wall Drug Cowboy Band, do you take requests?
Mom, could you tell me where Old Faithful is?
Corn Palace, It's 106 degrees, how close are you to turning into a town full of popcorn?
White Castle, what's all the hype about?  Did I order the wrong thing?
I think only Meatball liked your burgers.

Yellowstone, why so many dead trees?

  1. I (Raevon) do not know where to start. It was a trip of a lifetime. I could not have asked for better trip companions. We had a really great time.
The RV was big, but we all handled it well, took that puppy 4250 miles. What's the deal? Gas pricest were not cheaper than Oregon. In fact, most places quite a bit more. But, came home to see that prices went up about 20 cents while we were gone.
Yellowstone West RV park, just outside of Yellowstone was beautiful. Ate breakfast looking out on the most breath-taking view. Scenery along the drive in Yellowstone was so perfect, but I was absolutely petrified when it got quite windy,we were at high elevation, on a narrow, curvy road and up ahead I could see that the road we were about to travel on was built on stilts, a literal shelf on the edge of a very steep mountain side. I slowed all the traffic way down, it was so scary.
Crazy Horse and Mt. Rushmore took my breath away.
We listened to several of the Little House on the Praire Books, and it was so cool when we arrived in Walnut Grove, Minnesota(had a really long visit with the local Police Officer - Mike, he was sooo cool!). Had a really special time in Glencoe, visiting my Mom's grave for first time in 48 years, and visiting with relatives that were totally awesome, and getting a good look at the town where my family members ate, slept, worked, lived and died. (My Lands are where my dead lie buried - Crazy Horse).
The Twins won the game! Yeah! The Target Field Stadium is best I have ever seen!
We stopped at tons of Roadside attractions along the way. I loved seeing the Rune Stone in Kensington, Minnesota, a relative of my Mother's was listed as one of the wittnesses to the belief that it is real. The Runestone, is a rock about 3'x 2' and was found in a field by a farmer. It has ancient writing from the Vikings on it, believed to be from the 14th century.
We had many adventures on this trip, from the beautiful landscapes at every turn to the Thunder and Lightening storms, and heat, it was all so great!
I spoke to a man at a rest area, that was travelling by motorcycle, he was on a 5500 mile road trip. He had just retired from 24 years in the military, and was rewarding himself with a trip to take a look at the beautiful county and the people he served for all those years. I thanked him for his service and wished him a wonderful trip.
Everyone deserves to have a vacation like this. To see the country they live in, one town at a time. Taking those off the highway trips to see the America, that is the true America, where you will see true Americana.
Every where we went it was beautiful. The Columbia Gorge of Oregon/Washington, the beautiful Mountains of Wyoming, never realized how absolutely beautiful S. Dakota is. Minnesota had its quaint little town charms all along the way, with field after field of corn growing. The rolling golden fields of N.Dakota, it all reminding me of the song "America the Beautiful", and the inspiration for that song, I now truly and fully understand. Montana is really big! Easten Washington is gorgeous.
We hit lots of roadside attractions, some had gift shops, so we usually supported these little stops by buying a few trinkets and some ice cream.
Europe and France, I am sure are wonderful, but take a look around your own country, next time you plan a trip, and find treasure's right here.
    God Bless America!

  2. All the trees are dying in Yellowstone because of a pine beetle infestation. Trees started turning brown in 2010 and now there are acres of brown dying white-bark pine trees in the area around Yellowstone. There are so many beetles because the winters have not been cold enough or had enough snow to kill of the beetles.
