During the summer of 2013 we went on a lot of little adventures. Our friends Mary and Leon allowed us to stay at their vacation home in Prineville. We ventured out and found this great little town, Dayville, OR. Dayville is located in Grant County along Highway 26 between Prineville and John Day.
Dayville Mercantile, cute old timey Dry Good Store.
Keystone Junction Cowboy town in the parking lot of the Mercantile.
Inside the Mercantile.
There's some pretty amazing scenery outside of town.
On our way up to Birch Bay, WA, for a little stay with Amber and Lawrence, we stopped in Castle Rock. They have a great FREE little museum to visit. They also had a few neat thrift shops, a quilting fabric store, bakery, and like 7 salons and barber shops. There must have been a barbering/beauty school nearby or something.
Amazing 1931? restored Fire Engine from Castle Rock Fire Department.
Pick up the phone and hear the actual 911 calls from May 18, 1980. The day that Mount Saint Helens Erupted.
The Mitchell Corn Palace is in Mitchell, SD. It was 106 degrees when we visited. It's nice and air conditioned inside and has a huge gift shop, of course, a movie theater where they show you a short movie about the famous palace and a refreshing concession stand.
Yes, this building is covered in corn! There are lots of corn murals inside as well.
They built this in 1892 to showcase their corn and get tourists to Mitchell.
120 years later, it's still working!
Each year they change the theme, this year, "Youth Activities". Maybe they are running out of ideas?
Oh yeah! Worlds largest ball of twine! It doesn't get more roadside than this.
This is the World's Largest Ball of Twine rolled by one man. There are other larger balls, but they are being added to all the time by various people. This was one man's work over 29 years! That makes it much more legit!

Giant Eagle on I-5 outside of Albany, OR 2011
I hate packing, I have nothing to wear, It's too hot! Is that too much complaining for someone who is about to go on a big trip?
Actually, I can't really narrow down what I am going to wear. I think this is the first trip that I have ever felt that way, but I feel a lot freer to bring clothes I wouldn't normally wear, or shoes, because I can just run back to the RV and change easily.
This trip is actually a dream come true for me. If you have met me, you know about my love of all things Roadside. You know I'd rather see The World's Largest Ball of Twine, than the Eiffel Towel. Besides, I already saw that in Vegas! ;-)
I am hoping to add to my over 50 submissions on www.RoadsideAmerica.com. Which is by far the internet's best website. Thanks internet! You Rock!
